From the top of the Burj Khalifa

Today we’re visiting the tallest building in the world, The Burj Khalifa.

If you haven’t noticed yet, Dubai likes to be big and fancy. They’ve already broken an impressive amount of world records and they are not done yet. A few things I saw when I was there that we didn’t get pictures of was in the Mall of the Emirates, they build an indoor ski mountain.

They also had an exhibit where planned to recreate all seven wonders of the world all around the city. Seriously.

Sorry, off topic! Anyway, if you’ve seen Mission Impossible; Ghost Protocol you might recognize this building. In the movie, Tom Cruise scales the outside of the building, which he actually did. The entire sequence was filmed on location and he really was climbing. (Although he wasn’t free climbing in real life, sorry!)

This is a view from the bottom, looking up. The little circle is the deck we’re going to.

Riding the elevator going up was very fun. It went 5 meters a second. I used the time to sneak a drink of water, since it was pretty hot.

And we’re up to the top! Here’s a view of the Dubai fountain.

Here’s looking up. We didn’t go all the way to the top.

Here’s a view from the north side. There was a large outdoor observation deck, we walked all the way around.

As you can see, it’s very hazy. The city is always building and adding onto to what they have.

The architect was probably the most interesting thing. Each building is unique and beautiful.

On the way down, there was a large exhibit about how they built the building. It took over five years to finish the entire project. Here’s a model of the building.

This is a picture of what it looked like on the opening night.

Thanks for checking out my blog =) This concludes my visit to the middle east.

Like always, thanks to K.B for allowing me to use her pictures.
