Singapore is the world’s only island city. It’s located at the tip of Malaysia, with Indonesia to the south. The name comes from a Malay word Singapura, “singa” meaning Lion and “pura” meaning city.
I was spent two days in Singapore, but I really enjoyed it. Without a doubt, this is the cleanest and safest place outside the US I have ever visited. They have strict rules here, which in turn means a lower crime rate. Brush up on the rules before you come visit. For example, chewing gum is illegal.
There was so much to do here, it was hard to fit everything in.
I was staying up in Sembawang, in the northern part of the island, but spent a lot of time down in Marina bay. Like everyone else does, we rode the train around the island.
I really wish I had gotten a picture of the train station. You would go in, fill a card with money and swipe it across a machine to get onto the station. We all found it quite cool.
Like always, I really enjoyed looking at the different buildings and architecture.
Marina bay is is at the southern tip of the island. There’s a huge mall, the Singapore flyer, the biggest Ferris wheel is the world, and a lot of different shops and places to explore. We spent a full day here and still didn’t get to see everything.
Here’s a daydream out by the harbor.
The Merlion! Singapore is known for it’s famous statue of a Lion with a mermaid tail by the harbor. It’s so hard to get a picture next to it, there’s always hundred’s of people crowding around and getting their own pictures.
There’s this great ice cream place across from the statue. I don’t remember the name, but we all enjoyed our ice cream!
Inside the mall at Marina bay, there was this round spout. It’s above canals inside the mall. We were eating dinner when it was suddenly full of water and emptied out into canal.
Is that cool, or what? People would rent out boats and just paddle their way down the mall.
After dinner, we back outside. By then, it was getting dark outside. Everything lights up at night and became a tunnel of light.
As you can see in this picture, we’re heading toward the Singapore flyer =) Going on it was an experience all together, so I’ll make another post about it.
Over all, Singapore was great. The food available there is this great mix. We sampled a lot of stuff and half the time had no idea what we were eating. Don’t ask questions, just enjoy!
Thanks for checking this out. Stay tuned for next time, when we take a ride into the sky.
Like it’s been for a while, thanks to K.B for allowing me to use her pictures. I appreciate it, since my dumb camera decided to break. You’re the best!
